About Jan

A native Kentuckian, Jan Durham comes from a long line of women who have worked with their hands - knitting, crocheting, sewing, and embroidering. Her dense and multi-layered pieces evoke this long memory of women's work. Creative and playful, Durham's fiber and multimedia art constantly push forward as she tries to answer the next 'what if' question.

Having recently mounted a solo show focused on the tactile nature of her work, Durham encourages touch and the handling of her pieces.

Vision for a tactile show.

How do you know when something is finished?

I could never work on an assembly line.

I think I am the viewer.
